SUMMARY:'Gut\, Liver and Friends' Seminar with Prakash Ramachandran
DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday\, 05.02.2025 at 16:00\, Professor Prakash Ramachandran will be the speaker of our ‘Gut\, Liver and Friends‘ seminar. \nProfessor Prakash Ramachandran is a renowned researcher based at the University of Edinburgh in the Centre for Inflammation Research\, where he is also Chair of Experimental Hepatology. Professor Ramachandran’s work has provided several new insights into the biology of macrophages in fibrosis\, particularly in the liver with one of the first analyses of the human liver fibrotic niche based on single cell transcriptomic data. His interdisciplinary research combines expertise from hepatology\, biology and computer science. \nHis talk is entitled: \n“Dissecting the Heterogeneity and Plasticity of Liver Scar-associated Macrophages”.

SUMMARY:'Gut\, Liver and Friends' Seminar with Lisa Maier and Nassos Typas
DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday\, 12.02.2025 at 15:30\, we will have two speakers for our ‘Gut\, Liver and Friends‘ seminar: Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Lisa Maier and Dr. Nassos Typas. \nLisa Maier is a Professor for Microbiome-Host-Interactions at the University of Tübingen. Her lab investigates how medicinal drugs from various therapeutic classes interact with gut microbes and their downstream effects on host physiology. To do this\, she uses high-throughput methods to study drug effects in pure cultures\, as well as in both defined and complex microbial communities. These studies are then complemented by experiments in gnotobiotic animal models. \nHer talk will be entitled: \n“(Unintentionally) Drugging the Gut Microbiome: Consequences for Microbes\, Microbial Communities\, and the Host”. \nNassos Typas is a trained biochemist\, molecular microbiologist\, and systems biologist. He did his undergraduate studies in Chemistry/Biochemistry at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki\, his PhD at the Free University of Berlin with Regine Hengge and his postdoctoral research at University of California at San Francisco with Carol Gross. Since 2011 he has been running his own group at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) at Heidelberg\, and since 2024 he is heading the new Unit/Department of Molecular Systems Biology. His lab develops systems-based quantitative approaches and combines it with mechanistic work to study how bacteria interact with the environment\, the host and with each other. \nHis talk will be entitled: \n“Emergent behaviours during drug treatment of microbial communities”.

SUMMARY:'Gut\, Liver and Friends' Seminar with Palak Trivedi
DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday\, 19.02.2025 at 12:30\, Ass.-Prof. Dr. Palak Trivedi from the University of Birmingham will be the speaker of our ‘Gut\, Liver and Friends’ seminar. \nHis talk will be entitled: “Gut-Liver Axis in Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis”. \n\nDr. Trivedi is a Clinician Scientist in the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Birmingham Biomedical Research Centre (BRC)\, based at the University of Birmingham. Dr. Trivedi is a Consultant Hepatologist who has devoted his clinical and research career to studying immune-mediated and chronic cholestatic liver disease\, specifically primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) and primary biliary cholangitis (PBC). \nPalak is chief investigator for the UK-PSC consortium\, and was elected chair of the British Association for Study of the Liver Special Interest Group (BASL SIG) for immune-mediated liver disease in 2018. \n\nSource: Dr Palak Trivedi – Department of Immunology and Immunotherapy – University of Birmingham
