Martin Kriegel is Head of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology and Head of the Department of Translational Rheumatology and Immunology at the University of Münster and in addition Adjunct Associate Professor of Immunobiology at Yale University. His laboratory investigates host-microbiota interactions in autoimmune diseases by combining human microbiome studies with gnotobiotic models and in vitro approaches, including organoids.

Martin Kriegel has published numerous influential publications on the role of the microbiome in autoimmunity. His work encompasses both fundamental mechanisms of microbial immune modulation and translational studies on diseases such as lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.
