CRC1382 at the 20th RWTH Science Night
Last Friday, November 8th 2024, the outreach team of CRC1382 had its first stand (“Bacteria, Bile and Beyound”) at the 20th RWTH Science Night! This event has been attracting thousands of visitors every year since 2003, with a unique way of presenting science to the public in the late hours of the night.
The CRC outreach team introduced visitors of all ages to the gut-liver axis through hands-on activities and informal exchanges. Why do we see so many bacteria in stool when we look at it under a microscope? How do scientists isolate bacteria to work on? How can stool colours reflect health issues, including problems with the gut or liver? Why do we study these two organs together? What does it mean to be in a CRC? And many other questions were discussed with the visitors who crowded the stand from 18:00 to midnight. PhD students from the consortium also presented their own research in more details to curious students and adults. All in all, the event was a great success and brought the topics of the CRC research closer to the public.
